Roses are Red

This lesson was written for PSP 9 but can be done in any other version of PSP.
This tutorial assumes you have a basic working knowledge of PSP.

Materials needed:

Supplies - Zip
Rose Tube and Mask

A thank you to the makers of the rose tube and mask.

 

Before we start:
Mask - !10emask.PspMask. Download and extract mask to your Mask folder.
Open the rose tube, duplicate and close original.

 

Let's begin

1) From your rose tube choose a light foreground colour (#F0BABA) and a dark background colour (#C60F24).

2)  Open a new transparent image 400 X 400 pixels.  Flood fill with your background colour (dark).

3) Layers -  Load/Save Mask - Load Mask from Disk.  Find the mask !10emask.PspMask (One of the first ones in your list). Settings: Create mask from: Source luminance; Orientation: Fit to canvas; Options: Invert transparency; Hide all mask.  Click Load.

4) Selections - From Mask.

5) Effects - 3-D effects - Inner Bevel - Choose the Metallic Preset. See image.

6) Layers - Delete.  Answer yes to the pop-up question  "Would you like this layer merged into the layer below it?"

7) Selections - Select None.

8) Layers - Duplicate.  Image - Rotate- Free Rotate -Rotate this layer 45 degrees Left. Make sure All Layers  is not checked.

9)  Layers - Merge - Merge Group

10) Layers - New Raster layer - Flood fill with foreground colour (Light colour). 
Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise - Use following settings: Gaussion; Noise: 27; Monochrome Checked.

11) In your layer palette drag this layer to the bottom and close it by clicking on the eye.

12) In your layer palette click on Group-Raster layer 1.

13) With your Magic Wand - settings: Mode: Add (Shift); Match mode: RGB Value; Tolerance: 0 (null); Feather: 0 (null).  Select outer rectangles of the mask image.  See Image.

14) Layers - New Raster Layer.  Selections - Modify - Expand by 3.  Flood fill these selections with your foreground colour. 

15) Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds.  With the following settings: Width: 10; Opacity: 75; Color: background colour; Horizontal: not checked; Light from left/top: checked. Close this layer by clicking on the eye.

16) In your layer palette click on your Group - Raster layer1 again.

17) Layers - New Raster Layer.  Selections - Invert.  Flood fill this layer with your background colour.

18) Effects - Texture Effects - Blinds.  With the following settings: Width: 10; Opacity: 75; Color: foreground colour; Horizontal: not checked; Light from left/top: checked.

19) Selections - Select None.

20) In your layer palette click on the top Raster layer. Open this layer by clicking on the eye.  Layers - Merge - Merge Down. 

21) Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance. In your layer palette set layer opacity to 55.  Again close this layer by clicking on the eye.

22) In your layer palette click on your Group - Raster Layer 1 layer again.

23) With your  Magic Wand  click in the middle circle of your image.

24) Selections - Modify - Contract by 5.  Layers - New Raster Layer.  Move this layer to the top.

Now we will get our centre image ready.

25) Go to your  Rose tube image.  Layers - Duplicate.

26) Image - Resize with the following settings. Width/Height: 75%; Resampling using: Bicubic; Resize all layers NOT checked. 

27) Effects - Edge Effects - Enhance.

28) In your layer palette click on the bottom raster layer. 

29)  Effects - Art Media Effects - Pencil with the following settings: Luminance: 137; Blur: 7; Color: Background Colour; Intensity: 70.

30) Repeat step 29.

31) Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.  Edit - Copy.

Back to your mask image.

32) Paste- Paste into selection.
Selections - Select None. In your layer palette make all layers visible.

33) Image - Add Border - symmetric, 5 pixels - Colour - white.

34) With your Magic Wand, standard settings, select your border and Flood fill with your background colour.

35)  Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Preset Round. See Image.

36) Selections - Select None

37) Image - Add Border - symmetric, 25 pixels - Colour  - White

38) With your Magic Wand select your border and Flood fill with your background colour.

39) Effect - Reflection Effects - Kaleidoscope with the following settings.  See image

40) Selections - Select None

41) Image - Add Border - symmetric, 5 pixels - Colour - white.

42) With your Magic Wand select your border and Flood fill with your background colour.

43)  Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel - Preset Round with the colour set to your foreground colour.

44) Selections - Select None

45) Layers - New Raster Layer.  Add your watermark.  Optional.

46) To save your image File - Export - JPEG optimizer.
